Sierra Hampton

Sierra Hampton (Chickasaw citizen) has a B.A. in Political Science from UC Berkeley, and an M.S. in International Development and Management from Lund University, Sweden. She completed her master’s thesis in Aotearoa on the role of the United Nations’ Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples’ role there, from the perspective of Māori activists. Sierra is very interested in food and seed sovereignty and Indigenous food systems. She’s engaged in the food system as a gardener, vermiculturist, seed saver, home cook, and passionate eater. Her current research as a PhD candidate at UC Berkeley combines agroecology and Indigenous food sovereignty to analyze the Chickasaw Nation food system. After Graduation she will conduct a postdoc in Turkey and hopes to start a Chickasaw Children’s Camp for food sovereignty education.
